  1.           INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR OS/2 2.1 DRIVERS FOR:
  2.             SpeedStar VGA, Super VGA, and Hi-Color
  3.                 SpeedStar 24
  4.                 SpeedStar 24X
  5.               SpeedStar Pro ISA and VLB
  6.  
  7. 1.      Boot DOS and run your mode-setting utility.  For the SpeedStar VGA, 
  8.     Super VGA, Hi-Color, and 24, the mode setting utility is VMODE.  For 
  9.     the SpeedStar 24X the mode setting utility is 24XMODE.  For the 
  10.     SpeedStar Pro, the mode setting utility is PROMODE.  Using the mode-
  11.     setting utility, configure your monitor for use with the Diamond card.  
  12.     If you have any questions about the mode-setting, please consult the 
  13.     manual for your Diamond card.  DO NOT RUN THE MODE SETTING UTILITY 
  14.     FROM A DOS SESSION UNDER OS/2!
  15.  
  16. 2.      Boot OS/2.  Open up an OS/2 windowed or full-screen command prompt.  
  17.     From the command prompt, type DSPINSTL, the press Enter.
  18.  
  19. 3.      Put the IBM Display Driver Disk 1 into drive A.  The first screen will 
  20.     allow you to select Primary Display or Secondary Display.  Click on 
  21.     Primary Display, then click on OK.
  22.  
  23. 4.      The next screen will allow you to select the chip type for your video 
  24.     card.  It should automatically select the correct chip, but here are 
  25.     the correct selections anyway:

  27.     SpeedStar VGA, Super VGA, Hi-Color, and SpeedStar 24:  ET4000
  28.     SpeedStar 24X:                                         Western Digital WD90C30
  29.     SpeedStar Pro:                                         Cirrus Logic

  31.     Click on the correct chip type, then click on OK.

  33. 5.      The next screen will give you two options, Install Using Defaults For 
  34.     Monitor and Install Using Display Adapter Utility Program.  If you 
  35.     have a SpeedStar Pro ISA, click on Install Using Defaults For Monitor, 
  36.     then click on OK and go to step 7.  If you have any other card, click 
  37.     on Install Using Display Adapter Utility Program, then click on OK.

  39. 6.      A standard OS/2 file open window will appear.  The file you are looking 
  40.     for is the mode-setting utility.  Normally, these are found in the 
  41.     following locations:

  43.     SpeedStar VGA, Super VGA, Hi-color:       C:\STAR\UTIL\VMODE.COM
  44.     SpeedStar 24:                             C:\SS24\UTIL\VMODE.COM
  45.     SpeedStar 24X:                            C:\24XMODE.COM
  46.     SpeedStar Pro VLB:                        C:\SSPRO\UTIL\PROMODE.COM

  48.     Once you have the file located, click on OK.  This will return you to 
  49.     the screen with the locate button.  It should now show you the full 
  50.     path to the mode-setting utility, as listed above.  Click at the end 
  51.     of the line, then put a space, followed by the word MONITOR, so that 
  52.     it looks like the following:

  54.     SpeedStar VGA, Super VGA, Hi-color:   C:\STAR\UTIL\VMODE.COM MONITOR
  55.     SpeedStar 24:                         C:\SS24\UTIL\VMODE.COM MONITOR
  56.     SpeedStar 24X:                        C:\24XMODE.COM MONITOR
  57.     SpeedStar Pro VLB:                    C:\SSPRO\UTIL\PROMODE.COM MONITOR

  59. 7.      The screen will flash several times as it cycles through some mode 
  60.     changes.  A screen will then come up with a choice of resolutions.  
  61.     Pick one of the resolutions that your card supports, then click OK.
  62.  
  63. 8.      You should now have a box prompting you for a drive.  The disk is 
  64.     already in the drive, so click Install.  The necessary files will be 
  65.     copied over and the necessary configuration files modified.  It will 
  66.     prompt you for the second disk.  When it does, put the Display Driver 
  67.     Disk 2 into your A drive, then click OK.

  69. 9.      Once the drivers have been copied over, exit from the OS/2 windowed 
  70.     or full screen command prompt, then shut down OS/2 and reboot.  Your 
  71.     system should now come up in the resolution you chose in step 7.
